SensLAB charter

Principles

SensLAB platform goal is to offer an accurate and efficient scientific tool to help and foster the design, development, tuning, and experimentation of real large scale sensor network applications. This platform is distributed among 4 sites (Grenoble, Lille, Rennes, Strasbourg) and is composed with 1024 nodes. Each location hosts 256 sensor nodes with specific characteristics in order to offer a wide spectrum of possibility and heterogeneity. The platform will be useful to a large spectrum of research activities: radio resource optimization, MAC protocol design, routing protocols, capacity and provisioning, naming/addressing capabilities, energy awareness and optimization, scaling, self organizing structures but also embedded OS design, application benchmarking and dimensioning.

A software suite offering a complete programming, debugging and tuning environment suitable for the provisioning and the design of wireless sensor network application will be available from the SensLAB portal.

It is a shared tool, used by many people with different and varying needs. The administrators staff objectives is to keep the platform available for experiments. The functioning of the SensLAB platform is not guaranteed 24/24 and 7/7. It is a “best effort” service.

The SensLAB plateform does not guarantee the user housed data; there is no experimental backup data.

Good usage rules

  1. Please try to plan large scale experiments during night-time (between 19:00 to 09:00 at local time of the cluster sensor nodes) or week-ends.
  2. Between 09:00 and 19:00 (local time of the cluster sensor nodes) you should not use more than of 3 hours on all the 256 sensor nodes of a local platform during a given day.
  3. You should not have more than 2 reservations in advance, because it kills down resource usage. Please optimize and submit jobs instead.
  4. You must mention SensLAB in all publications presenting results or contents obtained or derived from the usage of SensLAB.

Privacy policy

A person with access rights promises to not reveal the parameters which permit one to access his account on the SensLAB platform. This right can not be delegated to another person.

Each SensLAB user must respect the applicable legislation in its totality, most notably in the domains of computer security and intellectual property.

Platform usage is monitored by SensLAB staff. In case of bad use, your account will be locked.

Mailing-List

As a SensLAB user you are automatically subscribed to the senslab-users mailing-lists. The traffic is not very high, so please keep an eye on those emails as they may contain important information about the platform use
